Share: On October 22, a fire broke out at the Bratislava Oil Refinery (Refinery), owned by the Hungarian MOL group, in Slovakia. The plant processes Russian oil supplied by the Druzhba pipeline, reports CZ News. info. The Bratislava refinery, operated by Slovnaft Plc, has a processing capacity of 124,000 barrels per day (6. 1 million tons per year). Founded in 1957, it is one of the most complex refineries in Europe (clean crude index = 11. 5).

Its petrochemical division, Slovnaft Petrochemicals (SPC), is integrated into the oil refining industry of MOL (Magyar Olaj- és Gázipari Részvénytársaság), Hungary's largest oil and gas company. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, has not yet commented on the incident. Several photos are published on social networks, claiming that the footage shows a burning refinery in Bratislava.

In recent days, explosions have also been reported at the Danube Refinery, Hungary's largest refinery processing Russian oil, and at the Lukoil refinery in Ploieste, Romania. As a result of the explosion, one person was injured, a criminal case was opened under the articles of non-compliance with the legislation on labor protection and on causing harm to health due to carelessness.

As for Hungary, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán discussed the situation at the Sazhalombatta refinery with MOL representatives and Interior Minister Sándor Pinter the day before, on October 21. He stated that fuel supplies to Hungary are safe. According to him, the circumstances of the fire "will be investigated as thoroughly as possible. " We will remind you that while oil refineries are burning in Europe, Russia is finding new routes for its raw materials.
