Service in the Armed Forces after 60 years: People's Deputies approved the bill, details

To spread: on June 4, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a law in the first reading, which will allow men to voluntarily sign a contract for military service after 60 years. Among the initiators of the Law No. 13229 were members of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Roman Kostenko, Fedor Venislavsky, Oleksandr Fedienko, Solomiya Bobrovskaya and other MPs.

If the Council approves the project of the law as a whole, to Ukrainian citizens over 60, to sign annual contracts for military service. For this purpose it is necessary to obtain a conclusion on suitability for health reasons from the Military Medical Commission and the written consent of the commander of the unit. The admission to the service of officers aged 60 years must also agree with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

For volunteers 60+ under contracts, a probationary period will be set for 2 months. If the serviceman does not test or find his or her official discrepancy, the contract may be stopped or terminated. The timeline proposed by the law is 60 years of age - one year with the possibility of concluding new contracts.

People's Deputy, Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Transport and Infrastructure Oksana Savchuk spoke about the need to introduce contracts for military service for persons aged 60 years in June 2024. On April 30, 2024, the Council was submitted by the Bill No. 132229, which will voluntarily serve under contract in the Armed Forces of men over 60 years of age.
