5 thousand drones per month: how Russia suits the air defense of Ukraine for wear

To spread: more than 350 "Shahmed" and dozens of rockets-a massive blow to Kiev on June 23 became the next stage in the Russian strategy of exhaustion: drones-Kamikadze, baits, missiles of different types. The focus understood whether Ukraine would withstand the pace and what to do to prevent the air defense system from failing at a critical time. On the night of June 22 to 23, Russian troops made a powerful blow to the capital of Ukraine.

According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces,: 352 unmanned drones of Shahd and their imitators were launched; 16 missiles, including: 11 Iskander -M ballistic missiles/KN -23; 5 Iskander -K's winged missiles. President Zelensky reported the use of North Korean Baltic Studies KN -23 confirming intelligence data. As a result, at least 5 high -rise buildings were damaged in Kiev, in particular in the Shevchenkivskyi district. A hospital in Bila Tserkva was injured in the Shahamed Stroke.

At least 6 people were killed in Kiev and one person in the White Church. The military-political observer of the Information Resistance group Alexander Kovalenko, notes that Russian invaders deliberately use the strategy of depletion of Ukrainian air defense. This tactic involves the massive use of unmanned aerial vehicles, in particular drones-Kamikadze type "Shahaned-136", as well as drones-bastards, such as "Geranium" and "Parodia".

According to Kovalenko, the Russians significantly increased their use: if it was previously about hundreds of drones a month, now their number reaches thousands. June 2025 will be an absolutely record month by the number of drones used for the whole time of the war. As of June 23, the Russian army launched more than 4 thousand drones of all modifications in the peaceful cities of Ukraine. The expert claims that by the end of the month this figure can reach 5 thousand drones.

The Russian MIC, according to Kovalenko, has production capacity, which allows to produce up to 90 Shakhaned units per day, as well as a similar number of drones of "geranium" and "parody". This enables them to arrange night attacks using 150-180 drones. "For them, the number of more than 5 thousand, almost 5. 5 thousand per month of this combined format is not a problem.

This approach creates a huge burden on Ukrainian air defense systems that are forced to respond to mass raids, spending resources and ammunition," - says Focus expert. Military expert Oleg Zhdanov notes that judging by the GUR of Ukraine, Russian invaders are able to organize large -scale air attacks about once a week. These attacks include percussion drones and missiles. In this case, half of the drones are combat, and half are imitators, which complicates the work of the air defense.

The expert warns that at intervals of attacks once every five days the air defense will not cope without significantly replenishing the missiles. Oleksandr Kovalenko points to systemic shortcomings in preparing for this type of threats. He notes that Russian tactics were predictable, but Ukraine was unable to prepare properly. This, according to the military, is due to the lack of strategic planning.

The expert emphasizes that last year it was obvious that the Russians were increasing the use of drones, but Ukraine could not adapt to this challenge in time. This led to the loss of precious time that could be used to strengthen the air defense. For effective counteraction to Russian attacks, experts offer a comprehensive approach that includes the use of various air defense equipment.

In particular, Oleksandr Kovalenko notes that earlier Ukraine relied mainly on mobile fire groups, but their effectiveness is reduced due to the change of Russian tactics. He proposes to combine mobile firing groups, anti-aircraft missile complexes (SACs), portable anti-aircraft missile complexes (MSRCs) and other means.

The expert also draws attention to the problem of excessive dependence on individual systems, such as Patriot, which are expensive and not designed to combat mass attacks of cheap drones. Instead, he calls to pay attention to cheaper and more efficient tools such as Gepard or Oerlikon anti-aircraft-platform installations, as well as drones-interceptors and light aircraft.

The observer positively evaluates the first steps in the direction of using light aviation with complexes of electronic wrestling (HRB) for the interception of drones, which was mentioned by the Commander -in -Chief of the Armed Forces Alexander Sirsky. "Finally from Alexander Sirsky, we heard that the first lightweight plane begins with the ETB complexes to intercept drones.

However, it is only one of the elements of a complex system that should also include turbos, light helicopters and anti-aircraft missile complexes of a small radius of action," the expert added. Kovalenko also focuses on the importance of citizens' vigilance during air anxiety. He emphasizes that in cities such as Kiev, there is enough time to hide in shelter, unlike the frontline regions, like Odesa, where drones can fly from the sea in minutes.

"Therefore, vigilance, vigilance should be as much as possible in our citizens, especially when the Russian occupiers are maximizing terror," the expert summed up. Oleg Zhdanov highly evaluates the effectiveness of the air defense systems that stand on Ukraine-T-TRA, such as IRIS-T, but indicates a problem with the number of missiles.

To counteract mass attacks, Zhdanov proposes to urgently re -arry mobile fire groups, strengthening their combat capacity and providing radio -electronic guidance and observation. "It is necessary to re-arry mobile fire groups, it is necessary to strengthen them in combat capacity and to provide them with radio electronic guidance. In mobile groups there is a machine gun, which has a maximum range of a lesion of 1.

7 km, so than this" shahamed "to knock down? Zhdanov emphasizes that the situation will be complicated by insufficient supply from partners. Without acceleration of which, missiles and modern air defense systems, Ukraine will become more difficult to resist Russian attacks. We will remind, Ukrainian singer Taras Topol reported on social networks that their apartment in Kiev was destroyed. According to him, the explosive wave even pulled the armored door.
