Turkey started paying Russia for gas in rubles

In addition to Turkey, the main customers of Gazprom from Italy and Germany agreed to the new payment conditions. For the supply of natural Russian gas, Turkey will be calculated in rubles. This was stated by Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez, Reuters reports. According to the Turkish official, in the coming months the share of payments in local currency in energy trading with Russia will increase.

According to the agency, Russia insists that countries that need its energy are paid for supply in rubles to support the Russian currency. But most international energy agreements are held in US dollars or euros. Turkey also tries to stimulate trade using a lyre that has suffered from unorthodox monetary policy. It is noted that Turkey and Russia have agreed to start ruble calculations for natural gas supply in September 2022.

At the end of March 2022, the Kremlin's head Vladimir Putin obliged the "unfriendly countries" to move to rubles in calculations for the energy -supplied energy. Analysts of the Consulting Company from Norway Rystad Energy believe that if Russia receives gas payments in rubles, it will avoid some sanctions that the US and allies have entered for invasion of Ukraine.

Claudio Galimberti, Senior Rystad Senior Senior Senior, said Russia can develop new contracts that require rubles, but the governments will need to keep rubles in their central banks. At the same time, Gazprom's main clients from Italy and Germany agreed to new payment conditions, but nine companies from Bulgaria, Denmark, Baltic countries, the Netherlands, Poland and Finland have refused to pay for gas supply in rubles.

Among others, focus reported that Russia has dramatically increased the volume of oil supply by sea. So in the Russian Federation they want to have time to sell their "black gold" as much as the EU sanctions will come into force. We will remind that Ukraine and its partners are preparing a project of a resolution on a register of claims to Russia, which they want to represent the UN General Assembly in November.
