The EU has not agreed on 14 packages of Russian sanctions: which country against the ban on Russian gas

The German company continues to trade Russian liquefied gas for the third year of a full -scale invasion. There are also fears for subsidiaries that circumvent sanctions against the Russian Federation, explained the journalists of Germany's behavior. For the second month, the European Union Member States postpone decisions on 14 packages of sanctions against Russia. The package is blocked by the German government, which proposes to reiterate the measures that should affect Russian exports.

Reuters told about the details of the vicissitudes of the new sanction package. Reuters journalists spoke with unnamed European diplomats, which explained why restrictive measures against the Russian Federation were hampered. According to one of the interlocutors, it is an agreement on the punishment of companies that help Moscow to bypass sanctions. Germany protested against some points in the agreement, so they were canceled.

Despite deleting these points, some European politicians are still not satisfied, the agency's article is not further satisfied. Whether the lock is related to Germany, or, for example, with Hungary or another EU member, is not specified. Representatives of 27 countries tried to reconcile the issue of Russian liquefied gas (LNG), which is overloaded in some European ports, contrary to the ban.

In addition, they planned that EU companies would be obliged to monitor subsidiaries and partners in third countries so that they did not help the Russian Federation to circumvent sanctions. According to anonymous sources of journalists, these issues raised disputes in Germany: the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not agree.

The point, which was particularly affected by German politicians, was about "clause about the absence of Russia for subsidiaries in third countries," journalists wrote (clause - a reservation in the treaty that must be executed). In particular, paragraph 12G planned to ban re -export from the Russian Federation - it was canceled, but during the vote on the evening of June 19 there was no unanimity, the sources of Reuters said.

Earlier, Focus wrote about Germany's position on a new package of sanctions and Russian exports of liquefied gas. In the fall of 2023, Bloomberg spoke about the activities of the German company Sefe GmbH, which belonged to Gazprom before the invasion. In 2022 it was nationalized, but the company continues to execute previously concluded contracts. For example, she continues to trade in liquefied gas, which she is sold from Yamal.

The LNG enters the Belgian port of Zebrygg and then goes to India, told journalists of the publication. In the spring of 2024, the problem continued to exist, the economic observers noted. Germany, on the one hand, insists on strengthening sanctions on the Russian Federation, and on the other, is afraid of punishment of companies that continue to contact Russia bypassing European restrictions on gas and technology.
