Sniper accuracy at 3.5 km: as Leopard 1 showed himself in the war against the Russian Federation

Germany and Denmark have promised to transfer more than 100 Leopard to the Armed Forces 1. Old tanks receive different reviews, but the military note the high accuracy of the l7 gun and the mobility of the machine. The Ukrainian Army has both newer Leopard 2 tanks and the older Leopard 1. They have been in the Armed Forces for almost a year. The focus figured out how German machines showed themselves, and what are the features and disadvantages.

In November 2023, the LEOPARD 1 tanks that were supplied from Germany and Denmark were noticed on the front. The Armed Forces receive the latest modernization of Leopard 1A5. According to the German edition of Wirtschaftswoche, Ukraine has already received about 90 tanks, and by the end of the year the total number of machines will be exceeded by 130 units. The Ukrainian army is already using Leopard 1 on the battlefield. Tankers in a few interviews told what special German cars.

The first was the tanks from Denmark. The military says Leopard 1 has an accurate gun, good maneuverability and predictability in control. Machines are used at a distance. "The targets are realistically up to 3. 5-5 km, even 5 km, so. These systems are very relevant, because modern tanks that are in armed enemy, they cannot withstand us at long distances," Vitaly said military In the AFP report. The military is mostly used by German machines not as a tank, but as fire support for infantry.

"Militar" states that Leopard 1 is no longer a full tank in the territory of the Russian-Ukrainian war. However, it is still a valuable combat unit with a powerful 105mm gun. Tactics on the battlefield: In a short report of the Armyinform, the fighters compared Leopard 1 with T-64, which is the most massive tank in the Armed Forces. One of the tankers just worked on the T-64.

He called the advantages and disadvantages of the German tank: "It is higher by half a meter, it will be noticeable from a greater distance. And so the tank is a tank," - continues a member of the crew Leopard 1A5. Leopard 1 is the predecessor of Leopard 2, which was created with a vision of battle in which anti -tank remedies would destroy tanks. Designers and engineers preferred the mobility of the machine, not its security.

According to analysts, the protection of Leopard 1 is worse than even in Slovenian M-55s, which are a deep modernization of the Soviet T-55. Together with the LEOPARD 1 armor, only 70mm protection. He will be able to withstand a 30mm gun from the Russian BMP, but FPV-Dron or grenade launcher is a deadly threat to the crew, they write in "militaristic".

Particly solving the problem imperfect by the current wealth standards was offered by dynamic protection "Contact", but there were no photos that would confirm the integration. Weak booking is offset by high mobility. The tank has an 830-horsepower 10-cylinder MB 838 CAM-500 and an automatic transmission. Thanks to this, the tank can easily develop a speed of 65 km/h, which is still a good indicator for armored vehicles.

Reverse speed is 25 km/h, which increases the chances of leaving the battlefield in time. For comparison, Russian T-72 or T-90 tanks have a speed of 4 km/h and 11 km/h, respectively. Royal Ordnance L7A3 gun in Leopard 1 has a 105mm caliber. The weapons of the machine showed extraordinary accuracy, and the 1A5 version has the same fire control system as Leopard 2 under the name Emes 18. A tank can hit the target at a distance of up to 2 km in any weather.

105mm gun may not be enough to punch into the frontal part of the most modern versions of Russian tanks. However, there is a M1060A3 ammunition that will allow you to break up to 520 mm of homogeneous armor at an angle of 60 degrees up to 2000 meters. This will be enough for punching the frontal part of the T-64BV, T-72B and T-80BV. The projectile with a fugas warhead will be able to beat the cluster of infantry. Fire can be made from closed positions up to 10 km.

There are also cartoon warheads that essentially turn the tank into a shotgun. The Ukrainian army will become a large Leopard 1 operator, so they were officially adopted. Weak booking requires experienced officers and crews who will be well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of Leopard 1. As experts continue, a reserve of cars with a 105-mm gun could help stop a breakthrough with other high-mobile equipment.

Tank expert Mykola Salamakh stated that in Ukraine they plan to modernize Leopard 1A5 by additional equipment of dynamic protection and anticumulative grates. However, this will not change the situation in principle, so German machines will need other tactics of use. However, according to Alexander Kovalenko, Leopard 1 has a bunch of disadvantages. The first use led to the loss of several cars.
