Without "Tomahawks" on Yelabuz: how to get cruise missiles to Ukraine without the help of the USA, - analyst

Share: European partners can help Ukraine get its own analogues of the Tomahawk cruise missile, the analyst believes. The Tomahawk is being talked about in the United States of America, but they are in no hurry to transfer it, so it is better to invest money in the Ukrainian missile program. Tomahawk missiles with a range of 1,600 km will easily reach the Shahediv plant in Yelabuz or the Iskander ballistic missile plant in Votkinsk, the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) website said.

It would take 150 missiles to destroy, for example, the production of attack drones, and it is highly doubtful that the US will ever transfer that many weapons. Analyst Fabian Hoffman explained why the Tomahawk party will not help Ukraine. The area of the plant in Yelabuz is 160,000 square meters. m, and the radius of damage of the American means of damage is 13 m, i. e. the area is 530 square meters. m.

He assumed that it is not necessary to destroy all buildings, and then at least 150 missiles will be needed to hit key production facilities. But then new problems arise: you need to know exactly where the machines are, and the area of the plant is too large. Another problem is the number of launchers, which are generally very few in the world.

"The question today is whether Ukrainian target planners have similar, detailed knowledge of the exact location of Russian numerically controlled machines (NCMs), critical for the production of advanced weapons," he noted. The article considers options for how Ukraine can destroy the production of weapons in the Russian Federation, without having high-precision long-range and powerful weapons in large quantities.

At the same time, Flamingo missiles are mentioned, but it is admitted that they are not visible yet. The first option is disruption of supply chains to factories that produce rockets and Shaheds. Ukraine performs this task with the help of its own drones and Storm Shadow missiles. The second is to get other missiles, for example, Barracuda from Anduril.

Meanwhile, Hoffman offers a third option, which will make it possible to more effectively use the $125-200 million that Europe could spend on the purchase of a conditional 50 Tomahawks. According to the analyst, it is better for Europe to invest this money in the Ukrainian missile industry. "Expanding the domestic production of missiles in Ukraine remains the main strategic priority, this may be a more profitable option. The supply of Tomahawk to Ukraine will not decide the fate of the war.

It is more important that Europe invests in the missile sector of Ukraine," concluded Hofman. It should be noted that Focus wrote about the missiles of Ukraine, which appeared during the attacks on the Russian Federation. One of these missiles is the Flamingo, capable of flying 3,000 km and weighing 1,000 kg. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced in October that this weapon was used together with the Neptune missile to strike a Russian military facility.
