Turkey is armed: how many and what weapons did Ankara produced for 2023 (photo)

In addition to creating new weapons samples, Turkish defense companies, together with the country's Defense Ministry, have been actively working on modernization of existing samples, including armored vehicles and ships. The Turkish Ministry of Defense reported on activities for 2023. In total, 49 projects for the modernization and purchase of weapons for various troops, including land troops, marine forces and aviation, were implemented.

Defense News Viewers in the publication of March 11 have identified some types of weapons that are of greatest interest. The M60 tank: Two separate modernization projects are currently being implemented. The first involves the replacement of the existing fire control system with the new Volkan-M, as well as equipping the M60T tanks with additional armor protection and protected crew seats. The contract was signed in January 2023.

The second project will increase fire power, survivability and mobility of M60A3 tanks. Prototype creation research is ongoing. LOOPARD 2 A4: This variant of the tank is undergoing a modernization under a contract signed in 2022 between the government agency for the management of SSB defense programs and the local BMC Otomotiv defense contractor.

The Turkish company Aselsan supplies fire control systems, remote weapons management stations, command, management, communication, communications and information systems, laser warning systems, driver inspection systems, active protection systems and close distance. BMC integrates these systems into the tank and will overhaul the chassis. SAU T-155 Firtina: The next generation of T-155 is created in BMC. The initial contract provides for the supply of 130 units.

As of the end of 2023, the company supplied eight units. The company also develops an engine for this self -propeller, with the work on checking and receiving the engine sample of the engine ended on February 24, 2023. ACV-15 armored personnel carrier: Aselsan modernizes the combat vehicle, supplying, among other systems, the 25mm Nefer tower. The 2nd Main Directorate of Repair Plants of the Ministry of Defense is repairing and overhauling the engine and the car transmission.

Milden submarine Project: Turkish Navy Design Bureau is working on a program for creating the first domestic submarine. Construction will be carried out on the Gölcük Shipyard Command ship. This year the test unit will be built and the construction of the first submarine will be planned for 2025. The Reis Submarine: Gölcük Naval Ship Since 2021 has implemented the Sixin Reis Submarine Submarine Program. The second Hizir Reis submarine was launched on May 25, 2023.

Preveze Submarine: Gölcük Naval Shipyard Shipyard has begun modernization of the submarine of the TCG Sakarya Class Preveze. F-16 fighter: There are two separate projects for Turkish Air Force. The first is to purchase new F-16 Block 70 aircraft and to use Viper upgrades to available F-16 Block 40/50 aircraft. The second is to extend the life of F-16C/D Block 40/50, which are in service, by 2050 and their design. This project will be carried out at enterprises underway by the 1st Aviation Representation Office. Akinci and Anka-S drones: Currently, the purchase of different types of AKINCI and Anka-S drones is underway.

For both of these projects, Turkey considers it critical to increase their range through a satellite. Hürjet aircraft: The main purpose of this project is to develop and produce a single -engine, double jet aircraft with characteristics that will play an important role in the preparation of pilots for modern fighters. The prototype made the first flight in April 2023.

Hürkuş-B: This program for the creation of a new new generation training training aircraft is intended to satisfy the need for Air Force command in additional training aircraft. In the end, this will improve the quality of preparation of combat readiness and efficiency of flight training. The first aircraft is planned for 2025. Earlier it was reported that Robit Technology has developed a ZAT FPV drone for the needs of the Turkish army.
