The first aerial battles in the First World War were slow, and the aircraft-surveillance had no front machine guns. Therefore, the second pilots had guns or rifles, with which they tried to attack enemy planes. More than 100 years have passed and Ukrainian Yak-52 knocks the reconnaissance drone "Orlan-10" thanks to the second pilot of the aircraft with a rifle. The author states that the Yak-52 belongs to the Ukrainian volunteer aeroclub.
In the Russian-Ukrainian war, there were already some elements of the First World War: trenches, tanks-tanks, Maxim machine guns, but the Air Battle Yak-52 against drone could be the most dramatic example of a modern war. Social networks showed several videos from the ground and from the cabin of the pilot. The aircraft flew at a speed of more than 160 km/h around Orlan. This choice can be considered justified, because the Russian drone also flies slowly, and attracting Yak-52 is a cheap solution.
"To spend many thousands (if not millions) for every rocket to destroy inexpensive UAVs, it is an economically losing business,"-writes Paul Maxwell, Deputy Director of the Army Cybernetic Institute at the US Military Academy in New York. It is especially important for Ukraine to store the best anti -aircraft missiles, as the war has been going on for the third year and Kiev is dependent on the West. Therefore, Yak-52 can be effective, but its task is not simple.
