"Interface as in Video Grare": Meta develops a new super-helmet with augmented reality for the army

To spread: Anduril and Meta have announced cooperation with the creation of new combat interfaces for US infantry based on augmented reality technology - Extended Reality (XR). The essence of technology is to apply additional graphics and information on a real image. About it writes Defense Express.

The technology of augmented reality has already been known to the general public since 2013, when the first "smart glasses" of Google Glass appeared, but it has not yet reached a commercial breakthrough. In the military sphere, XR can be a real breakthrough: a soldier will receive an interface similar to a video game. On the battlefield, allies and opponents, map, drones, and switching function between ordinary and thermal imaging modes may appear right before the eyes.

It will be possible to see through the BMP armor, it will be aimed at shooting from the shelter, not substituting under fire. Other functions that have previously seemed fantastics are also possible. Integration with elements of artificial intelligence brings these solutions closer to what we are used to seeing in cyber -style movies. That is why the head of Anduril Palmer Laki, known for his adherence to combat drones, noted that his mission was to "turn soldiers into technicians.

" And partnership with Meta should help in implementing this idea. By the way, a technician (technoman) is a concept of cyber -fantasy that describes a person closely related to technologies. And the name of Anduril - a reference to the Aragorn sword from the "Lord of the Rings" Tolkina - also has a symbolic meaning. Ivas (Integrated Visual Augmentation System), initiated by the Pentagon, is transformed into SBMC (Soldier-Borne Mission Command), a new program with new technical requirements.
