"Russians read combat messages": What is the Signal messenger dangerous for the Armed Forces

According to Radio Technology expert Sergiy Beskrest, Russian spies in Signal communicate in Ukrainian, know the numbers of crews and calling commanders, but they can be calculated. The Signal application is considered to be the most protected messenger, but there are some risks of information leakage for the military. The Ukrainian specialist in the field of radio technologies Sergey Beskrestnov told this in an interview with dev. ua.

According to the expert, the Armed Forces now has no unit that would not have a group in Signal. Judging by the "stuffing" of the downed drones of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Russians have many SIM cards of different Ukrainian operators, so it is not difficult to register with Signal. Moreover, after the latest updates in the messenger, no open user number is visible.

Horizontal ties in the army partially help secure the military accounts from enemy spies, but there are several problems. First, if a serviceman dies or captive, the enemy can access his smartphone, and the group administration does not always control it in Signal. Often there are hundreds of participants in such professional and military communities, so it is difficult to check each person.

"Thus, the Russians read combat messages, and we have no business to control, because these are unofficial chats, there are no regulations for them. Even when creating a group, we must perceive it as open because we cannot ensure complete safety," - said Sergey Beskrestnov. The second problem that the specialist mentioned is when the invaders themselves create groups by inviting the military.

At the request to make a video call, the owners of such accounts usually correspond to the refusal, citing a broken camera or other reasons. The expert stressed that such spies communicate in Ukrainian, know the numbers of brigades and calling commanders, but they can be calculated by asking more questions. For example, you can ask if there is a battalion in the area of the same city "I understand that a counterintelligence will not check hundreds of people.

So if you visually do not know a person or have not communicated with it lately, consider it a stranger. In this sense, Delta It is not bad for military documents. We will remind, during an investigation of a blow to a lining of the 128 brigade, during which more than 30 Ukrainian servicemen were killed, SBU staff found that one of the devices with the Signal Messenger received a message about a specific date and place of shining of servicemen, where the rocket was further flew.
