There will be no more transit: the Ministry of Energy explained how the EU is without Russian gas

According to Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko, European countries would be better to store gas in Ukraine on their own than to pay for the transit of "blue fuel" with the Russian Federation. The Ministry of Energy believes that Ukraine has the right to completely abandon the transit of Russian gas through its territory to the countries of the European Union, since there is no longer the issue of reliability of deliveries.

On March 5, the Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko told Bloomberg on March 5. "We are ready to stop it. If someone said it is a critical issue for survival in winter, that it is a question of reliability of deliveries, this is one situation. But I do not see this situation," Galushchenko said. It is noted that the European Union, like Ukraine, do not want to view the gas treaty with Moscow in force until December 31, 2024.

Although Prime Minister Denis Shmigal said on March 4 that the country could continue transit through its gas transmission system (GTS) on the initiative by the European Union. But the Minister of Energy seems to be impossible. "I do not see this opportunity. There are no possible solutions on the table," he said. Instead of spending money on Russian gas, Galushchenko suggested that European countries store fuel in Ukrainian gas tanks.

According to the official, Ukraine can store 15 billion cubic meters of gas, while the gas transit from the Russian Federation through Ukraine in 2023 was 14 billion cubic meters. "I think it's fair. Don't say that we cannot live without Russian gas," Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko added.

The European Union has banned most of the oil imports of oil and petroleum products from Russia, and the countries of the Great Seven banned the purchase of "black gold" in the Russian Federation if the cost exceeds $ 60 per barrel. But despite the sanctions of the event, Russia's income from the sale of oil and gas in February 2024 jumped more than 80% compared to the February 2023. Yes, the Russian Federation has earned more than $ 10 billion.

It is reported that the revenues to the budget of the Russian Federation from taxes for the sale of oil and gas last month amounted to 945. 6 billion rubles. We will remind, on February 21 the press service of the Ministry of Energy reported that in Ukraine they are going to re-test the gas transportation system to confirm the readiness of infrastructure to stop the transit of Russian gas.
