Tajikistan ignored the ISS warrant and did not arrest Putin (photo)

To spread: The Russian President has arrived in Tajikistan for the first time since 2022. And instead of arrest, he was waiting for a solemn reception with "Paradise Garden" and the exchange of gifts. On October 8, Vladimir Putin arrived in Dushanbe - his first visit to Tajikistan since 2022. The country is a member of the International Criminal Court (ICS) and, according to international obligations, should arrest the Russian leader in accordance with the current warrant for its arrest.

But the Tajikistan authorities ignored the decision of the ISS, Radio Liberty reports. On the day of the visit, the human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) called on Tajik authorities to refuse Putin at the entrance or delay him upon arrival in the country. HRW also appealed to the Member States of the ISS, the OSCE and the European Union calling for pressure on Dushanbe to force him to fulfill international obligations.

"Putin should be a trial in the Hague in Hague rather than visiting international Sams in the Member States of the ISS," said HRW Liz Evenson, director of international justice. Despite the requirements of human rights activists, the Tajik authorities ignored the appeal. Putin at the airport was met by President of Tajikistan Emomala Rachmon.

Before the arrival of Russian leader Dushanbe Street was decorated in the colors of the Russian flag, and on the buildings there were large screens with photos of both presidents. And also the whole "paradise garden" of fruits. During his stay in Dushanbe, Putin will take part in the Summit "Central Asia - Russia" and at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of Independent States (CIS).

In addition to participating in multilateral events, the talks of Vladimir Putin with President Tajikistan Emomala Rahmon are planned. The parties will discuss the key areas of Tajik-Russian cooperation, in particular the development of trade, economic and investment relations, interaction in the field of security, energy, education and culture.

Following the results of negotiations, a number of documents aimed at further strengthening the strategic partnership between Tajikistan and Russia, as well as expanding the interaction within the CIS and Central Asia - Russia - Russia "are expected to be signed. In March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for Putin's arrest, accusing him of war crimes related to the deportation of Ukrainian children from the occupied territories.

Moscow rejects accusations and declares that it does not recognize the Jurisdiction of the ISS. And for ignoring the decision of the ISS Tajikistan, nothing threatens. The Roman Statute stipulates that if the State Party does not fulfill obligations at the request of cooperation, the court may refer to the Assembly of the State Parties and the UN Security Council on further actions. And that's all.
