"Putin doesn't care about that Donbas": Zelensky commented on the idea of exchanging territories with the Russian Federation

Share: President Volodymyr Zelenskyi suggested that Russians and Americans may understand the proposal to exchange Donbass for Zaporizhia and Kherson regions differently. He also reported that the situation has improved in a number of directions. The issue of territories, in particular Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, remains uncertain. Russia may mean that it will not advance further. In the USA, it is interpreted as a possible return of territories under the control of Ukraine.

This was stated by Zelensky during the briefing, as reported on October 20 in Suspilno. "Why does Putin need the administrative borders of Donbas? But he still wants that Donbas. He will not build anything there. He will start very loudly, show marketing, tractors will arrive and then throw all this away. He will invest some money, but he does not need it anyway," RBC-Ukraine quoted the president as saying.

He cited as an example the peninsula captured by Russia since 2014, "Crimea has become a pearl? And there are no hostilities there. No, it hasn't," Zelensky emphasized. According to him, it is only a way for the Kremlin to create the appearance of its victory in the war. "But there is a moment here. Who said that it will not go further in a few years? Who will guarantee it? It will be for sure - it is such a system over there in Russia that constantly returns to war," the president added.

He also commented on the situation at the front: We will remind, ISW reported that the idea of exchanging the territories of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions for full control over Donbas did not arise from the Kremlin for nothing. Analysts also emphasized that the terms remain unclear — the Russian Federation may be referring to territories it did not actually occupy.
