Only one survived: a shift of soil in Sudan killed 1000 people in an instant (video)

Extend: Darfur's displacement in the western region has destroyed the whole village. It is one of the most deadly natural disasters in the recent history of this African country. The tragedy occurred on Sunday in Tarasin village in the Marra Mountains in Central Darfur after a few days of spilling rains at the end of August, according to the Sudan Liberation Army. It is reported that the whole village was killed, Reuters writes.

"According to preliminary data, all residents of the village were killed, whose number is estimated in more than a thousand people. Only one person survived," - said in a statement of the rebel group. The village was "completely wiped from the face of the land", the group said, contacting the UN and international organizations to assist in the seizure of bodies. The footage that appeared on social networks depicts a flat terrain between the mountain ranges where there was a village.

The tragedy occurred against the backdrop of a devastating civil war that swept Sudan after the tension between the army of the country and the militarized forces of fast support grew into open fighting in April 2023 in the capital of Hartum and in other parts of the country. Most of the Darfur region, including Marra Mountains, has become virtually inaccessible to the UN and humanitarian organizations due to rigid restrictions and fighting between Sudan military and security forces (RSF).

The Sudan Liberation Army, based in the Marra Mountains, is one of the numerous rebel groups operating in Darfur and Cordophane regions. It does not participate in any of the parties in the war. Marra Mountains are a sliced volcanic chain that stretched 160 kilometers southwest of El Fasher, the epicenter of hostilities between military and security forces (RSF). Many people have moved to this area because of fighting in El Fasher and its surroundings.

More than 40,000 people were killed in the conflict, more than 14 million were forced to leave their homes, and some families were forced to eat grass in a desperate attempt to survive because hunger has swept some parts of the country. According to the UN and human rights organizations, this conflict was marked by horrific atrocities, including killings and rapes on ethnic soil. The International Criminal Court stated that he was investigating probable war crimes and crimes against humanity.
