Army Recognition says that the development of the main combat tank (VTT) Challenger 3 is conducted by Rheinmetall Bae Systems Land RheinMetall L55A1, compatible with NATO standards. The gun will use both kinetic shells of high penetrating capacity and programmable multi -purpose ammunition, which greatly expands the arsenal in multi -dominant operations.
According to IGL, Challenger 3 will receive new modular composite armor packs of British development and a complex of active protection (Kaz), capable of neutralizing anti -tank missiles and jet ammunition. Such a complex solves the task of survival of crew and preservation of combat efficiency in the conditions of use of modern PTRCs.
For comparison, the Russian T-14 "Armata" is equipped with a 125-mm 2A82-1M gun with the ability to start controlled missiles, active protection of "Afghanite" and a capsule for the crew, separated from the combat module. However, in the British concept, the emphasis is placed on the integration of the tank into the digital NATO battle management systems and improved situational crew awareness, which is provided by modern thermal imagers, sights and sensors.
With regard to mobility, Challenger 3 will also receive a modernized power plant. Although the exact characteristics of the engine are not yet disclosed, it is expected to increase reliability and maneuverability in difficult conditions. While the T-14 demonstrates a high speed of up to 90 km/h at a capacity of 1500 hp, the British army focuses on the stable work of the tank in combat.
In conclusion, the Minister Igl stressed that the UK Ministry of Defense will monitor the development of threats and will continue to modernize the platform as needed. Thus, Challenger 3 should be the basis of modern and adapted armored force capable of resisting any Russian tanks.
