In view of this find, only the fourth temporary military camp of the Roman Empire has been discovered in the Netherlands. According to archaeologists, given that the camp was located 25 kilometers north of the border of the empire, the Romans were most likely not to be perceived by the Nizhny German Limes as a real border. Scientists have come to the conclusion that this camp was temporary and its Roman troops were used for only a few days or weeks.

The camp may have been a stop to another camp, which was located approximately in the day on foot. It was a large camp that occupied an area of ​​3. 6 hectares. It was surrounded by a deep ditch 2 meters deep and an earthen shaft 3 meters wide with several entrances. The camp had the shape of a rectangle that resembles the shape of a gaming card. On the territory of excavations, archaeologists have found only a few artifacts, including a fragment of Roman armor. This is due to the fact that the camp soldiers used for a short period of time, as well as the fact that the soldiers traveled without anything. Despite a small number of artifacts, archaeologists were able to determine that this temporary Roman camp was built in the second century AD.

Archaeologists say that their find shows that the Romans were active outside the border of the Roman Empire and regarded this region as their sphere of influence. Scientists believe that in this region, the Romans collected taxes in the form of livestock and skins from peoples who were dependent on the empire. This is indicated by historical sources. Archaeologists were able to detect the new temporary military camp of the Roman Army through the developed computer program.

It helps to predict the location of temporary Roman camps in the Netherlands using Lidar data. This device attached to the aircraft is used to scan the underground landscape. The program reconstructed possible routes of the Roman army, calculating the number of kilometers that the army could pass in a day. The program also took into account the roads and availability of water, as well as searched for typical playing card camps built by the Romans.
