Local elections will not be: the Council found them impossible during the war

To spread: the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution that guarantees the continuous work of local self -government bodies during martial law. The document also stipulates that local elections in the current environment are impossible due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. 14031 "On the continuity of the functioning of representative bodies of local self -government in Ukraine in the face of military aggression of the Russian Federation". The decision concerns all levels of local authorities - from village and village councils to regional, as well as community heads. The document states that the organization and holding of local elections in compliance with national legislation and European democratic standards are impossible during martial law.

Responsibility for this situation rests with the aggressor state-the Russian Federation. The resolution also emphasizes that the stable functioning of local self -government bodies is a prerequisite for the continuity of the authorities, maintaining law and order, ensuring national security, defense and community life. The powers of the current councils and heads remain valid until the time of the new elections after the end of the war.

"The sustainable development of local communities and the exercise of the powers stipulated by the Constitution and the laws of Ukraine is a prerequisite for compliance with the principle of continuity of power," the document stated. We will remind, the Verkhovna Rada has repeatedly considered the issues of organizing the electoral process in the conditions of martial law.

Earlier, the Central Election Commission reported that holding any elections during this period contrary to the Constitution and the current legislation. New local elections are planned to organize after the war and the abolition of martial law.
