Experts, among others, call the higher moral spirit of Ukrainians and wonderful military tactics of the Armed Forces, as well as, especially importantly, the supply of Western weapons. And among them three types of weapons deserve special attention, writes CNN. Many now say that Patrioot tanks or air defense systems can affect the outcome of the war, but these systems have not yet been used in hostilities in Ukraine. But there are another weapon that has already helped change the course of war.
Here are three key ones that Ukrainians have used with a devastating effect. At the beginning of the war, it was expected that Russian armored columns would enter Kiev for several days. The Armed Forces needed something that could repel this attack, and Javelin came perfectly. The attractiveness of a managed anti -tank missile that runs from the shoulder of one person is the ease of use, as the manufacturer Lockheed Martin explains, which has developed a rocket together with Raytheon.
"To shoot, the gunner gives the cursor to the chosen target. Then the Javelin command and positions sends the launch signal of capture before starting," the developer notes. "Javelin" - a weapon like "shot and forgot. " As soon as his operator makes a shot, he can run into shelter as long as the rocket finds the way to the target. This was especially important in the first days of the war, since the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, as a rule, moved columns, trying to enter the urban areas.
The Javelin operator could fire from the building or from the tree and hide before the Russian soldiers open fire. According to Lockheed Martin, the complex is well suited to defeat the weak place of Russian tanks - their horizontal surfaces: the rocket first rises up and then affects the target from the sky. The Javelins had another advantage, especially relevant at the beginning of the war: they were politically acceptable.
"Low cost and defensive use make them politically convenient for other countries, whose authorities disagree with the departure of expensive offensive weapons, such as military aircraft," Michael Armstrong wrote in Conversation, Associate Professor of Brock University in Ontario. The full name of Himars - M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System.
It is "full -spectral, checked in battles, all -week, round -the -clock, 7 days a week, a deadly wheel system of high -precision shock weapons that responds quickly," the US Army says. It is a multi-luck description, but simply, HIMARS is a 5-ton truck with a container that can run six rockets almost simultaneously, sending their break-old warheads far beyond the front line, and then quickly change positions to avoid counter-strife.
"If Javelin was a cult weapon in the early stages of the war, then HIMARS is a cult weapon in the later stages," Senior Advisor to the International Security Center of Strategic and International Studies Mark Kancian said in January last year. Himars shoots ammunition called a controlled rocket launch system (GMLRS), which have a range of 70 to 80 kilometers. And their GPS systems make them extremely accurate, 10 meters from the intended purpose.
Himars had two key effects, wrote Jagil Hankin, Professor of the Team and Staff College of Defense forces of Israel. "The strikes forced the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to move their ammunition deposits to the rear, thereby reducing the available fire strength of Russian artillery near the front line and complicating logistical support," Hankin wrote. And the use of long -range missiles to defeat goals such as bridges has broken the lines of supply of Russian troops.
The Himars system is produced and patented in the US by Lockheed Martin. The Bayraktar TB2 Turkish drone has become one of the world's most famous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) due to its use of the Armed Forces against the occupiers. It is relatively cheap, made of ready -made details, has a deadly blow and records its success on video.
"Viral videos with TB2 is a great example of a modern war in the Tiktok era," Aaron Stein, a senior researcher at the Institute for Foreign Policy Research, wrote on the Atlantic Council's website. Bayraktar TB2 was not a "charming weapon", but it was "good enough", said Stein. Baracar has disadvantages: insufficient speed and vulnerability for air defense. According to the Oryx reconnaissance website, seventeen of 40-50 TB2 received by Ukraine was destroyed in battle.
But the number of "bayrats lost" is offset by their low cost, which means that they can be easily replaced. The plan for the creation of a plant for collection of drones in Ukraine was developed before the war. And the use of Turkish UAVs potentially saved the lives of Ukrainian pilots, which otherwise would have to perform combat missions. Recent reports from Ukraine indicate that TB2 may now play a smaller role, but its fans say that it worked well when Ukraine was the most important.
Samuel Bendett, Senior Researcher at the Russian Naval Analysis Center (CNAS), notes that videos filmed by Bayrakrama raised their fighting spirit and provided a "victory in public relations". TB2 even wrote a song and filmed a music video. We will remind, earlier it became known that Croatia prepares for the departure of 14 Mi-8 helicopters to Ukraine. 7 helicopters will partially disassemble and deliver to Ukraine land, the rest 7 will fly from Poland.
