Russia struck two Iskander missiles on one of the educational units of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Despite the safety measures taken, it was not possible to avoid losses among personnel. Later, the Ukrainian specialist in the field of radio technologies Sergey "Flesh" Beskrestnov reported that it was the Gonchariv training ground in Chernihiv region. This information was not officially confirmed.
According to the General Staff, as of July 29, three dead and 18 wounded servicemen are aware of July 29. Emergency services work at the scene and the necessary medical care is provided to the wounded. A special commission, headed by the Head of the Military Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was appointed to find out all the circumstances and causes of the loss, and a service investigation was appointed.
The General Staff emphasized that in the event of facts that indicate that the death or injury of servicemen occurred due to actions or omissions of officials, the guilty would be held accountable. The Armed Forces Command and Land Forces take additional measures to ensure the safety of personnel during rocket and air attacks of Russian troops at landfills and training centers. This year is the third similar tragedy.
On May 20, 2025, the Russian army struck a rocket strike in Sumy region, located less than 50 km from the line of combat. The attack occurred during the shooting at the shooting, resulting in the death of six servicemen and more than ten were injured. On March 1, 2025, Russian troops struck the Iskander-M cassette rocket on a training ground near the Dnieper, located 100 km from the front line. The attack occurred during the embroidery of personnel, which led to significant losses.
On the eve of the landfill, a Russian intelligence drone was recorded, which probably carried out intelligence. Then the commander of the Land Forces, Michael Dropaty, called the event tragedy and promised to hold persons whose negligence caused losses. In particular, he pointed to the outdated procedures for organizing the educational process, which attributed the servicemen to the danger.
In both cases, investigations were appointed, and the commanders of the units were removed from their duties. Military expert Oleg Zhdanov notes that one of the reasons for the tragedy was the absence of a clear algorithm of actions that would provide an adequate level of protection of personnel at landfills. Zhdanov emphasizes that a key aspect of preventing such cases is the creation of a reliable security system that would function without failure and take into account all possible risks.
However, according to the expert, the success of any system depends on the person who creates and implements it. Zhdanov draws attention to the fact that the organization of training centers was previously responsible for the commander -in -chief of the Land Forces, namely Alexander Sirsky, who is currently holding the position of commander -in -chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The expert notes that the problem often is that the person who created the system may not see its shortcomings.
"When you have done something, and you are told that it is not that you need to process, you cannot always understand what is wrong, because you built this system yourself," - explains Zhdanov's focus. The expert also pays attention to specific problems that arise due to deficiencies in the security system.
"Why can an enemy reconnaissance drone be in the airspace over the landfill, and why is it not being beaten? According to him, the cause of the tragedy could be that some training centers have a low level of discipline. This state of things, according to Zhdanov, is unacceptable, because the life of servicemen depends on the clarity and coordination of actions.
The expert is convinced that the problem lies not only in the organization of individual centers, but also in a general management system that needs fundamental changes. According to Sergei Flash Beskrest, the cause of victims at the landfill was the personal official negligence of the military themselves. "Only those who neglected security measures were mostly injured. Everyone knew that the UAV was hanging over the object. Everyone heard anxiety," the military said.
According to Zhdanov, without clear changes, Ukraine will continue to face tragic incidents similar to those that occurred in Chernihiv or Dnipropetrovsk earlier. The expert emphasizes that these cases indicate systemic problems that have not been solved for years. He calls for immediate action, because without reforming the system of training and managing troops, such situations will be repeated, at the danger of the life of soldiers.
The expert also draws attention to the fact that modern challenges, such as the use of the enemy of intelligence drones, require rapid adaptation and introduction of new technologies into the defense system. Radio technical intelligence tools must work smoothly, and personnel - to be properly prepared to respond to threats. Zhdanov notes that in the conditions of war it is impossible to rely on outdated methods of management and organization, because this leads to the loss of human lives.
