The President and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia discussed ways to increase pressure on Russia and opportunities to increase defense assistance to Ukraine

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Margus Tsakhna. "We are very grateful to your people, the government, for being with us from the very beginning of this war. Thank you for supporting our path to the European Union, our sanctions policy. We are also grateful for the share of your budget that goes to support our army and our soldiers," the Head of State said. Margus Tsakhkna assured that Ukraine can count on support from Estonia.

"We are doing everything we can, because we have a bad neighbor in common. You took the brunt of it, but so did our neighbor. We will never recognize any changes in territorial integrity achieved by force, because this is our principle," he emphasized. During the meeting, long-range, drone production and defense support of Ukraine in general were discussed. The President thanked Estonia for its contribution to the PURL initiative, thanks to which our country can purchase American weapons.

In addition, it was about cooperation between Ukraine and the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).   Particular attention is paid to methods of increasing pressure on Russia. They discussed Estonia's proposals regarding tariffs, as well as the preparation of the 20th package of EU sanctions. Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Margus Tsakhna also talked about priorities during Estonia's presidency of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) next year. Estonia plans to focus its attention on issues of support to Ukraine.

These are defense assistance, accession to the European Union, reconstruction, security cooperation and the use of frozen Russian assets. The head of state emphasized that it is important that last week the European Union gave political support for the maximum use of these funds for protection against Russian aggression. In addition, diplomatic work was discussed during the meeting. The President informed about contacts with the USA and other partners.
