EU completely refuses oil and gas from Russia: named "Deadline"

To spread: the European Union took another step to the final break of energy dependence on Russia. The Ambassadors of the EU Member States have agreed to continue the implementation of the European Commission Plan, which provides for a complete rejection of Russian oil and gas imports by 2028. The corresponding decision was made on October 8 at a closed meeting in Brussels. About it reports Reuters. This decision made it possible to overcome the first political barrier on the way to pass the law.

Already on October 20, the project will be considered by the governments of the EU countries, after which it will be submitted for approval of Parliament. According to diplomats, most of the Bloc states supported the European Commission's initiative. Resistance was expressed only by Hungary and Slovakia, which traditionally retain close energy relations with Russia. However, it is expected that even despite their criticism, the law will be passed.

In parallel, technical negotiations on the details of the document are ongoing. One of the most debatable issues remains the requirement to check the imported liquefied gas (LNG) - to make sure that it is not of Russian origin. France and Italy propose either preliminary reconciliation of deliveries or control during the arrival of gas to European ports.

According to the plan: in particular, Hungary and Slovakia should develop their own national strategies for gradual abandonment of Russian energy resources by 2028. The European Commission has intensified efforts in this direction under pressure from the United States. During his meeting with US President Donald Trump, the head of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen stressed that the EU is systematically moving to full energy independence from Moscow.

The final adoption of the law requires the support of the so-called "qualified majority", at least 55% of EU Member States. The document must then be agreed with the European Parliament. We will remind, shock drones in the afternoon on September 24 visited the city of Novorossiysk in the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation, the base of the Black Sea Fleet. According to the governor of the region Veniamin Kondratiev, the city was "horrible attack".
