Mykhailo Drapaty headed the new ZSU group: what is known about him

Share: Structural changes took place in the Defense Forces of Ukraine, as a result of which a new group was created - the United Forces (UOS). Its area of responsibility is the Kharkiv region and adjacent territories. The group was almost entirely headed by Major General Mykhailo Drapaty, who previously commanded the operational-strategic groups of troops (OSUV) "Khortytsia" and "Dnipro", reports on the website of the State Government.

"The area of responsibility of our command covers the Kharkiv region and the immediately adjacent territories, as well as units and corps that were previously under the care of the "North" troop group, which was part of the "Dnipro" OSUV," the publication reads. A difficult and tense sector, which is one of the priority targets of the enemy, was entrusted to Drapatom for the second time.

In 2024, he headed OTU "Kharkiv" during the Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region and the threat to Vovchansk. "The corps focused on this direction will be directly subordinated to the created group of joint forces. These are experienced, modern and progressive units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine," the authors of the post specified.

operational planning, will give a new impetus to the development of the capabilities of the command of the combined forces and will create additional opportunities for effective repulse of the enemy. At the end of September, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, decided to disband the operational-strategic group "Dnipro", formerly known as "Khortytsia". Its task is now assigned to the newly created corps and other military structures.

"Dnipro" controlled a significant section of the front from Zaporizhzhia to Kharkiv region, in particular, was involved in the distribution of ammunition between brigades. After the liquidation of the group, these duties were distributed among new units. Drapaty commanded the group for eight months.

It will be recalled that the commander of the Ground Forces, Mykhailo Drapaty, submitted a report on his resignation from his post after a missile attack by the Russian Armed Forces on the location of one of the educational units on the morning of June 1. According to him, such a decision is a conscious step dictated by a personal sense of responsibility for the tragedy at the 239th training ground, as a result of which soldiers died.
