"It will last two more years": Fico said that EU aid is fueling the war in Ukraine

Share: Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico spoke against the European Union's use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation to help Ukraine. He stated that in this case the Russian-Ukrainian war will continue for another two years. On November 10, the Hungarian conservative pan-European publication The European Conservative Magazine writes about the statements of the Slovak prime minister regarding the end of the war in Ukraine.

Robert Fitso spoke out against the EU plan to provide Ukraine with a 185 billion euro loan at the expense of frozen Russian assets, which are mostly kept in Brussels, Belgium. "Do we want to end the war or are we just fueling it? We are going to give Ukraine 140 billion euros to keep the war going. So what does that mean? That the war will continue for at least two more years," Fico said.

The Prime Minister of Slovakia stated that his country "will not participate in any legal or financial program" aimed at financial assistance to Ukraine using the frozen assets of the Russian Federation. In his opinion, such actions "will continue the war". The EU plan envisages the conversion of Russian assets into bonds and the return of the loan by Ukraine only after Moscow pays Kiev compensation for the war.

European officials say discussions are ongoing and a decision could be made by the end of the year, according to reporters. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also opposes the EU plan regarding Russian assets. Hungarian journalists noted that Belgium previously also objected to the use of Russian assets, fearing retaliation from the Kremlin.
