Analysts indicated that according to the Ukrainian side, the Russians placed most of their reserves in the Bakhmut area, which led to the slowdown in the Armed Forces. The report also mentions the assessment of the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Malyar, according to which the Armed Forces continue counterattacks in the northern and southern outskirts of the settlement and were able to advance two flanks for 500 and 1000 meters.
According to the authors of the report, some Russian warships claim that Ukrainian troops can no longer carry out long local counterattacks in the Bakhmut direction. At the same time, analysts believe that Russian forces on the flanks of the city, in view of everything, remain weak.
"Ukrainian counter -under Bakhmut probably eliminated the threat of Russia's surroundings in Bakhmut by Russia and forced Russian troops to allocate meager military resources to protect against limited and local offensive efforts, as apparently planned the Ukrainian command," the ISW said. Recall that according to ISW of May 18, the Armed Forces of Ukraine intercepted a tactical initiative and achieved tactically significant success in the Bakhmut direction.
The publication states that the Ukrainian forces have been holding local counterattacks for several days, which still do not indicate the beginning of a large counter -offensive. We also reported that according to Anna Malyar from May 19, the Ukrainian military successfully moved on flanks near Bakhmut, but every meter of liberated land is not easy, and fierce fighting continues in the suburbs.
