Transition to NATO Standards: ISW evaluated the success and progress of the Ukrainian army

According to analysts, Ukraine has already introduced more than 18 NATO standards, including personnel protection standards, communication training of the Navy, as well as procedures for information and transport systems. Ukraine continues to develop its defense and industrial base to become more self-sufficient in cooperation with US, European and international partners.

This is how the purpose of the Ukrainian authorities and its armed forces defined the Institute for the Study of War in its report of January 29. The report emphasizes that Ukraine is making efforts to bring its own armed forces to the standards of the North Atlantic Alliance.

"The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported on January 28 that in the period from December 2023 to January 2024 Ukraine introduced more than 18 NATO standards, including standards of personnel protection, communication training of the Navy, as well as procedures for information and transport systems,"----- The analysts of the institute note. At the same time, as ISW emphasizes, Western partners help the country to build their own defense-industrial base.

For example, the General Director of the German weapons RheinMetall Armin Papperger said in an interview with Bild on January 28, that Rheinmetall was building a new ammunition factory in Germany to create "strategic safety of supply" and ensure uninterrupted supply to Ukraine.

"Papperger also noted that in 2023 Rheinmetall received orders for military procurement from the Federal Government of Germany for the Armed Forces of Germany and Ukraine for more than 10 billion euros and that in 2024 this amount is likely to increase to 15 billion euro Isw. In January 2024, the first meeting of the Council of Ukraine - NATO in military format at the level of military commander -in -chief. This is another steps towards Ukraine's accession to the Alliance.

NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg recently stated that "Ukraine" will be invited to full membership in the Alliance at some stage. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the NATO doors for Ukraine remain open, and it will surely become a member of the bloc. At the same time, military high -ranking officials warn that NATO is forced to prepare for possible blows from Russia in facilities throughout Europe.
