There are seven types of Iskander-M OTRK missiles in the arsenal of the Russian Armed Forces: which modifications are the priority

Share: At least seven types of missiles with different warheads, including high-explosive, cluster, penetrating and special, are in the arsenal of the Russian operational-tactical complex "Iskander-M". The most massive modification was the 9M723-1F2 missile. An analysis of the documents of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Examinations (KNDISE) shows that there are more than 770 units of 9M723-1F2 in the arsenal of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

This was reported by the profile publication "Military". The price of one such missile is reported to be 192 million rubles (approximately $2. 4 million). The 1Ф2 variant is characterized by a modernized detonation and fragmentation scheme, which increases its effectiveness when hitting areas. The basic modification of the 9M723-1F1 was purchased in much smaller quantities - about 59 units, while the price per piece was calculated at approximately 3 million dollars.

This version is equipped with a high-penetrating warhead with steel elements designed to destroy equipment and personnel. Another variant, the 9M723-1F3, is also equipped with a penetrating high-explosive warhead and has an updated hull design. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation ordered 217 units of this missile, the cost of which in different years ranged from 189 to 238 million rubles per unit.

The number of "Iskander" warheads hitting the squares is three times greater than the number of shells designed to hit shelters, according to the data of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In addition, it can be calculated that the Russians paid 2. 5-2. 6 billion dollars for 1,046 warheads (three main modifications). during the two years of the war in Ukraine.

Analysts paid special attention to the 9M723-1K5 modification, equipped with a cluster warhead, which is designed to strike large areas, personnel in open terrain, and lightly armored vehicles. It is noted that about 185 such missiles were ordered. The analysis also mentions modifications of the 9M723-1B that use a special AA106 warhead. The dimensions and weight of this modification correspond to the serial standard: the length is 7. 2 meters, and the starting weight is 3. 8 tons.

At the same time, the smaller warhead weighs approximately 410 kilograms. The 1F4 modification is described as the latest version with an improved high-explosive fragmentation warhead and possibly a modified explosive to increase effectiveness against planar and fortified targets.

In general, analysts note that the listed missiles are in use by the Russian army and reflect the diversification of the combat arsenal of the "Iskander-M" complex to solve a wide range of tasks - from strikes on plane targets to the destruction of fortified objects and manpower. Earlier we wrote about whether Ukraine's Patriot air defense system can shoot down improved missiles of the Russian Iskander complex.
