India's leadership has collapsed plans for the development and production of helicopters and modern fighters. New Delhi also now builds its own submarines. India seeks to separate its defense industry from Russia and expands cooperation with Western defense companies, trying to build its own defense industrial base. On December 3, the US newspaper reported that high -ranking Indian officials announced a sharp decline in orders for defense equipment from Russia. They began to buy similar goods from Western suppliers. It is reported that India has canceled plans for joint development and production of helicopters and modern fighters with Russia some time ago, and that it is unlikely that plans for renting a Russian atomic submarine to study Indian crews. New Delhi now builds its own submarines.

Journalists referred to a high -ranking Indian official who, under anonymity, said Russian weapons are often cheaper than Western but needed frequent repairs. Therefore, long -term costs are more expensive. The analysts of the Institute have previously noted an increase in tensions in relations between Russia and India, in particular through the visit of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on August 23 to Ukraine.
