"Nedanko" with 100mm gun: why Russian BMP-3 didn't show themselves at the front-expert

The technique is fire from closed positions, which is uncharacteristic of cars of this class, because even the ancient Russian tanks T-54 and T-55 with the same 100-mm gun are better able to cope with such tasks. Polish Defense 24 Adam Sverkovsky told why BMP-3 did not "find a place" in real fighting. The author of the material provides purely theoretical data on Russian armored vehicles, which on paper has a completely tolerable appearance.

Such layout should increase the versatility of the machine on the battlefield, allowing to effectively destroy the living force, light fortifications and armored vehicles, including tanks with the help of anti -tank controlled missiles of the 9M117 family. However, in practice, this did not lead to an increase in combat efficiency on the Ukrainian fronts.

The conflict revealed a number of fundamental conceptual and technical problems of BMP-3, including weak armor or absolutely impractical layout of the landing department, said Sverkovsky. Thus, the Russian invaders, which are part of the 1st Guards Army, used BMP-3 to maintain infantry, conducting indirect fire on Ukrainian positions with 100mm gun. In this case, the record of the distance at which the accurate shot was made when conducting indirect fire with BMP-3, is 4 km.

The same indicator has a complex 9m113 "Contest". At the same time, despite the need to admit modern armored guns, the use of BMP-3 in this role is not a decent solution. And unsatisfactory results of the war indicate the need to further improve military tactics and equipment. However, the Russian military seems to be experimenting with various strategies, including the strengthening of BMP-3 by installing additional elements of armored protection.

But even with the use of additional protection modules, the results are still unsatisfactory, given the losses from FPV-Dron strikes. Other types of machines, such as light tanks 2C25, Press-SDM1, may be involved in the future to maintain infantry.
