The Russian Federation fills the advanced Soviet tanks: what is the threat of outdated equipment (photo)

Russian Cold War tanks can perform on the advanced support function, which is usually performed by infantry fighting vehicles. As the full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine approaches the three -year mark, the occupiers fill their leading positions with outdated tanks of the Cold War. In particular, it is about T-80, T-72, T-62 and even T-55 in the late 1950s. Army Recognition was told about the danger they pose to the defense forces.

Having failed in attempts to seize Kiev in early 2022 and faced with difficulties in increasing the production of tanks, the Russian army turned to its old reserves. The observers noted that despite its initial skepticism, Russian troops repaired and launched these outdated tanks on the front lines in Ukraine, demonstrating their adaptability and ingenuity in terms of logistical restrictions.

Initially, the invaders converted tanks into improvised artillery platforms for fire from closed positions. However, as the fighting continued and the loss of tanks in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation exceeded 2600 units, the Russians began to introduce these outdated tanks directly into the battle. Views write that despite their age and restrictions on the thickness of the armor and fire, these tanks pose a significant threat to Ukrainian troops.

This is due to the weakening of artillery support for the Armed Forces due to a shortage of ammunition. Therefore, the enemy's forces were able to use these machines to support, which is usually performed by infantry fighting machines. Experts also noted that some of the outdated tanks have undergone some modernization - they put dynamic protection on the technique, equipped with new radio stations and metal screens from UAV.

But some of the equipment goes into battle without any improvement compared to the initial configuration. "The presence of these tanks on the battlefield emphasizes the problems faced by Ukrainian troops and constant efforts to adapt to changing tactics and technologies," experts summed up. Recall that ISW analysts claim that Russian MIC is not as productive as the Russian authorities imagined.
