A recent leak of screenshots and trailers suggests that the original Star Wars trilogy will be restored in 4K. It will likely be released in IMAX theaters in 2027, the 50th anniversary of the first film. StarWars. com managed to confirm this information, but the real surprise was that the original theatrical versions of the trilogy will be restored to 4K. The fact is that in 1997, the director and screenwriter of "Star Wars", George Lucas, created a re-release of the films for cinemas.
The "Special Edition" included previously deleted scenes, as well as modernized special effects. For example, a deleted scene from A New Hope, when Han Solo meets Jabba the Hutt, is back. The latter was shown using 90s CGI, giving rise to the famous controversy that Han Solo fired first. Today, you can find only the version of "Star Wars", which was released on DVD in 2004.
In this version, the special effects of the 90s were updated, as well as new elements were added, for example, the appearance of Anakin Skywalker from the prequels in the form of a ghost of the Force at the end of Return of the Jedi. Even though the special edition was approved by Lucasfilm, fans wondered if they would ever be able to see the original Star Wars trilogy as it first appeared in theaters. It seems that now the army of Star Wars fans will have such a chance.
