According to journalists, there are currently 585 long -range missiles in the arsenal of Russian invaders, including 270 ballistic and winged missiles of the Iskander OTRC. Although there is no detailed information about the ratio of ballistic and winged Iskander missiles, there is an interesting detail. In fact, what is labeled as "Iskander-K" or P-500 can actually be two different types of winged missiles that are part of one system.
There are two varieties of winged missiles in the Iskander complex: 9m728 and 9m729, and between them the difference is significantly larger than simply numbers in indexes. The most significant difference is the flight range. If 9m728 (or P-500) has a range up to 500 km, then 9m729 can reach a range of up to 1500 km.
It was the emergence of a 9M729 rocket with such a high range of 2019 flight that was the reason for the West's accusations of violating the conditions of the long -standing Treaty on the Elimination of Medium and Low Range in Europe. Although the Russian authorities claim that the 9m729 flight range is also limited to 500 km. In addition, rockets also differ in massive parameters. For the 9M728 rocket, the length of the fuselage is 7. 4 meters, while for 9m729 - 7. 94 meters.
This necessitates the use of different transport and highways for each of the missiles. Thus, the existence of two different types of winged missiles also involves the presence of two different starting installations. 9m728 missiles can be launched from the 9P78-1 launch installation, which contains two such missiles. While 9M729 medium -range missiles can be used 9P701, capable of accommodating up to four such missiles.
"How many launchers of type 9P701 can be in p ** in winged medium -range missiles 9M729, there is no open data yet. But it should 500 km, and up to 1500 km, and this will be a separate call for our air defense, "the journalists said. We will remind, on August 28 in the General Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine named the number of missiles in the weapons of Russia.
