But the playwright Bernard -Anri Levi will present his new film to the world why Ukraine (Pourquoi L'Ukraine), dedicated to the eight years of Ukrainian independence - from the Revolution of Dignity to the Large -scale Invasion of the Russian Army into Ukraine.
Video of the movie included both the chronicle frames that Levi shot during the Maidan in 2014, and the events that Levi recorded on the film in recent months - defense on the approaches to Nikolaev, the consequences of mass murders and crimes against humanity in Bucha, disobedience in Kiev and Odessa resistance. This tape is not the first in Levi's experience. The playwright and philosopher saw and filmed many wars of the world.
He visited Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq, witnessed the wars in the Balkans, but it is the most piety to Ukraine. Levi assures that it is in Ukraine that the future of Europe and all European civilization is being decided today, and also calls for the world to stop Russia and personally - Vladimir Putin. Levi interviewed HB.
- What motivated you to make this movie, and what do you want to talk about in it? - The motivation was that today the Russian President Vladimir Putin has become for me the embodiment of modern fascism, which is important and should be overcome. What I write and shoot is my way of fighting it, because, in my opinion, Putin is a danger not only for Ukraine but also for civilization as a whole.
- Have you visited many wars of the world, what is the war in Ukraine? How does it see you after Syria or Afghanistan? - Like wild cruelty, and at the same time strikes the contrast between the horrific barbarism and the modernity of this war. I observed cruelty and dehumanization earlier: in Darfur, in Afghanistan or in Bangladesh, when I was still a 20-year-old young man. But I have never seen such cruelty at the same time with the high manufacturability of weapons.
Super-technological weapons today serve as the most archaic and criminal regime. Therefore, we observe the tragedies of Bucha, Mariupol, Olenivka. This is the peculiarity of the war in Ukraine. - In the movie you are trying to explain to Ukraine and the Ukrainians to the French, using the clear analogies of the French Revolution, you compare Taras Shevchenko and Victor Hugo.
How much does the spirit and history of the Ukrainian and French nations are similar? - In the history of Ukraine, I constantly see parallels with our French history, with its two major events - the French Revolution and the French resistance of World War II. In 2014, Ukrainians have made their dignity revolution, and today they are opposed and resisted by Russian fascism.
I really want the French to understand how similar to the spirit of Ukrainians today with the spirit of the French in those days. But my movie is wider, I want to show the spirit of Ukrainians to other Europeans, Americans, the movie will also be translated into English. The parallels are actually even more. In the second part of the movie, we communicated a lot and shoot a battalion stationed in Guliaypol, his soldiers also became the heroes of our movie.
I recently learned that the battalion decided to change its name and call the battalion Charles de Gaulle. And for me, it is evidence that the parallels I spend in the movie really work. - For a long time, large -scale military conflicts, as in Afghanistan, Iraq or Syria, were perceived by the average European as something far.
