ZNPP can be repaired during the "ceasefire": the IAEA and Russia are negotiating

Share: General Director of Rosatom, Oleksiy Lykhachev, said that the parties are discussing the introduction of a "quiet time" for the restoration of power transmission lines that provide external power supply to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The final decision can be made in the coming days.

According to Lykhachev, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the Ministry of Defense of Russia and representatives of Rosatom are participating in the negotiations, RIA Novosti reports. The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, plays a mediating role in this process.

"It is about allocating a certain 'quiet time', which should be sufficient for carrying out work both at the Dniprovska substation and on the Ferosplavna line, which is under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is a complex decision that requires mirror actions," Likhachev said. He clarified that restoration works may last six to seven days, as their volume is significant. The Ukrainian side did not officially comment on this initiative.

Since September 23, the Zaporizhzhya NPP has been operating on its own energy supply after the Dniprovska power line was damaged by shelling. On October 9, the head of the IAEA, Raphael Grossi, reported that the station's external power supply mechanism is gradually being restored. As a reminder, the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, located in the city of Energodar, remains under the control of the Russian military from 2022.
