Polyansky's words are consistent with the estimates of American analysts who do not see signs that in Russia are seriously striving for negotiations with Ukraine. On December 16, Polyansky stated that Kyiv had been tossed its opportunity to agree on a "favorable" settlement and that any possible "agreement" with the Russian Federation now provides only "surrender" of Ukraine.
Polyansky's statement is fully explained by the words of Russia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, who said the same day, but somewhat more veiled. On December 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the maximum goals of Russia in Ukraine, which are tantamount to the full capitulation of Ukraine and the West, remain unchanged. Putin also answered the French correspondent's questions during a "straight line" about possible plans to talk to France President Emmanuel Macron.
