"To escape from hell." How do Kherson live in occupation? Interview with a teacher who left the territory controlled in Ukraine alone in August alone

Ivan Vereshchak is a teacher from the Kherson region, who only got the territories occupied by the Russians this month. In early August, the Russians abducted his son for refusing to teach from September 1 on the Russian program. And while the child was held captive, the invaders threatened that the first and last warning. Video of the day after his son returned his son, Ivan Embarno evacuated to the controlled territory: 300 kilometers overcame 2 days, having passed 26 Russian checkpoints.

In an interview with Radio HB, he told how Ukrainians survive in Russia captured territories under the oppression of the invaders. - How long have you remained in the Kherson region since the occupation began there? - We have remained from the beginning, from February 24, and in fact until the beginning of August, although we planned to stay and influence those processes for as long as possible. But it happened that they were forced to leave. - You say "influence these processes in the future.

" What is it about? How can those Ukrainians who now live in the occupied territories can influence the resistance? - Everyone does the job he can do. First, not to succumb to all the promises of the criminal regime of the Russians, which they want to plant. It is possible to maintain other people who are weaker in spirit so that they do not give up. Perhaps one who is more progressive and who loves dangers is guerrilla.

For example, we, as teachers, [can] support both children and their parents, colleagues, so that, again, not to be "better". - I know that there is some separate work for teachers and schools. They try to start their propaganda at this front at this front. For example, to translate into Russian. Could you tell you what work they are trying to do with those who are involved in children? - They try to approach quite kind, restrained, on the one hand, about teachers.

"You will still study" as they say, and teach children, while the transition period, it will be possible in Ukrainian, and "You will still be in Ukrainian. " And "you will not have to switch to Russian learning", but it will be gradually, maybe [during] years or two. With such promises, they try to lure on their side of parents. The same with children. [They say]: “Everything will be gradually. You won't even see how everything will happen.

" On the other hand, they are already heard on our parents: "If you try to learn remotely, then we will either impose a fine for parents or take children at all. " Or, for example, "And for the third time, you may be prominent and think. " - I understand that the consequences can be different and even tragic. - Now it is not yet visible. But from those conversations of people who are still in the occupied territories, everything goes to the worst options.

- Could you tell your experience of communicating with the occupiers? There are people who tried to encourage the Russians to be humanism. How did these dialogues happen to you? - At some point, we did not intersect with Russian soldiers, communicated more with the collaborators. They first [said]: “Go. And who will not leave is your choice. " But, on the other hand, even the words "bag on your head and think what will be with you" sounded in the sidelines. Oh yeah.

- Do you now have the opportunity to keep in touch with your students or colleagues who remain in the Kherson region? - Even yesterday we communicated with a colleague. He found out how the situation was there, how everything would go, whether he would be able to teach children remotely. Our Kherson Directorate [Education], which is far from Kyiv. So far we will not start training. Maybe it will be since October. I communicate with other colleagues, with teachers.

It is also said that every day everything is worse, "nuts are delayed" and some of them think about departure. Although they have not yet come with a "proposal", as they came to us with his wife. I do not want to think so, but everything goes to the fact that they will press as much as possible.

- From the stories of people from the Majlis: when the invaders face disagreement, in particular teachers to teach in Russian or work as they want to correct it, they begin to lure money for education workers from the Crimea. Did you watch the arrival, import of Russians or someone from the Crimea to blur the team and achieve their criminal goals? - From the words of collaborators, other people who communicated more with them, we may have already brought us, teachers from Dagestan.

It may have crossed either in the local market or in the store, with people with a characteristic Caucasian pronunciation. I think someone has already dropped, may still be going. Therefore, this practice works. - What about access to products, money, to earn the opportunity to make not only about teachers? - It is quite difficult and every day more. Every day, more and more invaders are trying to displace the hryvnia, first. Moreover, both cash and non -cash.

In most shops in both Kherson and the region, terminals are being taken to use the non -cash hryvnia, although teachers, for example, are accrued, thank our cares and trying to support. Concerning products. We live in rural areas . . . We live, now in the capital. With products a little better. Most products are now being imported from Crimea, Russia and quality is quite doubtful and bad.

- What information can Ukrainians receive in the temporarily occupied territories of the Kherson region? What about communication with television? The other day there was a message that there were problems. Are there any interruptions? Can you get the information you want? - My painful place. Even if there were no products, but information could be lived. Since June, there is no Ukrainian mobile communication. This is related to the work of terminals, non -cash [turnover].

This is associated with access to a variety of resources, which requires confirmation of either SMS or through the phone. There is a Russian operator, but the quality of communication is doubtful. Television is completely Russian. Although if there is a satellite communication, the antenna can access Ukrainian channels, Ukrainian information. It was lucky: parents could be viewed. As for the Internet. All providers work through Russia.

At some point, it was possible to work with VPN, but with every day more services were disconnected. Just finding a new VPN service, it is switched off in a week or two. YouTube, Viber don't work. Facebook, Instagram don't work. Disconnected Google search. Catastrophe. At this point, a deep catastrophe. But people try to find channels in every way to get adequate information from Ukrainian sources. - The invaders try to hold a pseudo -referendum in early September, but their attempts are failed.

What did you notice? - In fact, all agitation and all attempts are hidden through the sale of mobile cards. Passport data is taken. They have the practice: "You are seven - your passport data. " They lure social assistance into 10 thousand rubles, in return for commitment "You come to a referendum and support Russia". Perhaps because of receiving humanitarian aid, which is again of dubious quality, [providing] through passport data.

They try in every material way to lure more people, but as I saw, 10–12% still have doubts - maybe they may not leave. Most have not yet agreed with such a situation and are open [they say] that Kherson is for Ukraine and "we will not allow such things to be allowed. " Even some take this humanitarian, but will not go to the "referendum". - In the beginning, you said that you would stay at home if certain events did not force you to leave.

Could you tell at least a few words what happened? - It is perhaps the practice of all terrorists - the so -called kidneping: through their relatives, children to influence the position of other people. In fact, we wanted to get us to cooperate, stopping the child with the following words: "If you do not go, you will not write a statement to school, then you will not see your child. " - managed to return it. - [According to them], it was the first warning: “We return it to you.

We are so good, fair. But next time we will be harder to communicate with you. " - After that, you were looking for ways as quickly as possible to leave your own home. - So. If he may have been one thing, but children were our future. - There are ways to leave the temporarily occupied territory. They are not simple, cost money. Do you confirm this? - So. With desire and in case of possibilities you can [leave]. Even volunteers work, help.
