"The decisive issue in the war": Scholz called Crimea Ukrainian since the Soviet times (video)

The German Chancellor recalled that Ukraine was already an independent state with membership in the UN during the Soviet Union and owned Crimea. The future of Crimea will be a decisive issue in the war of Russia against Ukraine. This was stated by Olaf Solz, a German Chancellor, in an interview with ARD. He recalled that our country's peninsula had had a long time. Ukraine was an independent state with UN membership during the Soviet Union.

"And this, by the way, the Russian Federation left the Soviet Union, not Ukraine," he said. The politician also commented on the clear requirements to outline the prospects of membership at the future NATO summit in Vilnius. He stated that in the event of Ukraine's accession to NATO there should be no border conflicts. However, according to him, Germany believes that Berlin lies responsible for providing security guarantees.

The NATO Summit will take place on July 11-12 in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. In the event, participants will discuss important issues concerning the national security of different states and defense, Russia's war against Ukraine, as well as the possibility of joining new members. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the future NATO summit in the Lithuanian capital could be fateful. He also stressed that 2023 will be decisive for Ukraine.

The President's office also stated that 20 NATO member states have officially supported Ukraine's membership in the Alliance. Currently, the clear prospects have not been promised in the block, so the question remains open. We will remind, the Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels on June 16 stated that the invitation of Ukraine to the Alliance during the summit in the Lithuanian capital.
