Kherson Mayor, abducted by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, refused to exchange to save the seriously ill prisoner

To spread: Vladimir Mykolaenko has been in Russian captivity since April 2022. He was on the list for the last exchange of prisoners, but gave way to a seriously ill prisoner. This was told by his niece Anna Korshun-Samchuk during a special event in the OSCE. According to Anna, now Kherson Volodymyr Mykolaenko is illegally detained in the correctional colony of the city of Pakino of the Vladimir region.

"In this penitentiary institution, the official is kept in inhumane conditions and without providing medical care," - said the niece Mykolaenko. She reported that there was still no information in what status the former mayor of Kherson was being held, or had been charged or punished. The released prisoners told the nieces of Nikolaenka that in 2022 Vladimir was planned to be exchanged, but instead he asked to release a cellmate who had a gangrene on his leg.

The former mayor feared that a man may not survive in captivity because of their difficult health. Since then, Russia has not included it in the exchange lists. The Russian military was abducted by the Kherson on 18 April 2022. According to his wife Marina, in the evening, the official called a friend and called for a meeting, after that Nikolayenko called once. More people were not in touch. Before that, he received threats from collaborators.

For a long time, there was no information about him until representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross have not confirmed that the expolse was held captive. Volodymyr Mykolaenko headed Kherson from 2014 to 2020. He was also a participant in the local Euromaidan. We will remind, on May 6 the coordination headquarters on the management of prisoners of war reported on the return of 205 fighters of the forces of defense of Ukraine from the Russian captivity.
