HMCS Charlottetown (by the name of the city of the same name of Charlottewn) is one of the twelve frigates of the Halifax class intended for multi -purpose operations, especially in the Protetic War. In technical terms, the frigate is equipped with advanced hydroacoustic systems and weapons, which are crucial for tracking submarines, such as Russian Kilo's Russian submarines. Charlottetown uses the SQS-510 hydrologator mounted on the housing and a Canadian towing system SQR-501 Cantass.
Both systems allow the passive detection of underwater threats at a considerable distance. The ship is also equipped with an An/SQR-19 towing sonsar, which increases its ability to find low-frequency submarine noise. These systems are completed with a RUM-139 VL ASROC protical rocket that delivers a light torpedo to the location of the target submarine. The ship can also use MK 46 torpedoes, released from its two torpedoes Mark 32 Mod 9.
