Russia attacked Okhmatdit with winged rocket X-101-Bellingcat

Bellingcat analyzed videos of the rocket, created a 3D X-101 rocket model and contacted rocket experts. The Russian rocket has characteristic features that are clearly visible in the video. Bellingcat analysts analyzed the massive attack on Kiev on July 8 and concluded that the Russians hit Ohmatdit Children's Hospital with a winged X-101 rocket. Two doctors were killed, 16 people were injured, including three children. This is stated in the report on Bellingcat.

After a child's hospital strike, several accounts on social networks, known for misinformation, including the account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, began to say that the rocket was American production and that its launch was made from the Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile complex, analysts say. However, after an analysis of Bellingcat, when they studied videos and photos from social networks, as well as 3D rocket models, analysts conclude that it was a Russian winged rocket X-101.

The analysis corresponds to the opinion of experts, including Fabian Hoffman, a researcher at the Oslo University, specializing in rocket technologies. Dr. Jeffrey Lewis, an expert in nuclear weapons and missiles from the Middle International Research Institute of International Research in Monterea (California), and in his email Bellingcat also came to the conclusion that on the footage of attacks on social networks, you can see the X-101 missile.

Bellingcat also checked the alternative theory that appeared on the Internet that the rocket was an American AIM-120, but did not find any evidence of it. The attack on the hospital has become part of a larger Russian rocket firing that struck civilian goals in other places of Ukraine, including the city of Dnipro. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the attack began at about 10:00 am local time and included at least 36 missiles, including 13 winged X-101 missiles.

Shortly before noon, reports of the explosion at the Ohmatdit Children's Hospital began to appear. After these reports, videoadras appeared in Telegram, which shows how the rocket hit the hospital. Analysts say that the rocket has a number of features, including the presence in the back, apparently, the jet engine, as well as two short wings about the middle of the rocket. These are the distinctive features of the winged X-101 rocket used exclusively by the Russian Armed Forces.

Comparison of the screenshot of the rocket that struck the hospital with the 3D rendering of the X-101 rocket shows that they really have these features. Analysts compared X-101 with AIM-120. After all, the propaganda Russian channel War On Fakes argued that Ohmatdit was struck by this rocket released from the Ukrainian Nasams battery. AIM-120 is produced by the US defense contractor Raytheon Company.

But analysts say that the assertion that the rocket was AIM-120 ignores the jet engine, noticeable on the case of the rocket, which struck the hospital. "This very noticeable feature is present on the X-101, but not at the AIM-120. They also analyzed the photos of the SBU and the media (Gazeta.

ua, Reuters and Kyiv Post), which were on the site of the Russian rocket's fall, geolockeling them and analyzing the wreckage which were compared with the wreckage of other X-101, which were dumped to Ukraine earlier, for example, on December 29, 2023. By the way, the wreckage of a Russian rocket, which was beaten in December last year, was transformed into a keychain, which is sold at Airhubstore.
