The Black Sea borders Ukraine, Russia, three NATO countries and NATO partners. It is becoming increasingly dangerous due to the Kremlin's decision to terminate the Ukrainian grain safe transportation agreement. The battle for control of the sea can have consequences for the global energy market and food. This will almost certainly give rise to new challenges for the Alliance, as it seeks to support the main principle of international law - free navigation.
The publication notes that for centuries the Black Sea has been in the center of Russia's efforts to extend its geopolitical and economic influence in the world. This led to war with the Ottoman Empire. The warm waters of the Black Sea contribute to the commencement of trade all year. Its location allowed Russia to influence Europe, the Middle East and even further.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also tried to strengthen his impact on the Cherkoma region: he put funds in seaside ports, resorts, and also invested in a combat fleet. One of the reasons for the annexation of Crimea is the control of the Black Sea. There are also about 20% of Russian oil exports of 400-575 thousand barrels of oil per day. More than 3% of the world's oil and oil exports pass through the Black Sea.
