Supporters of Russia "broke" Poland with a device for $ 30: how did they succeed

To arrange chaos on the railway, the malefactors even needed hacker skills, because signals were sent to stop trains by simple radio transmitters. The transport connection of more than 20 trains on the railway in Poland was suspended due to unusual sabotage. Experts found out how the attackers managed to influence the system, writes Wired.

The infrastructure was not broken by hackers, and diversion was carried out with the help of a simple radio station, which sent special signals to the sensor system for emergency stop. According to a Polish cybersecurity expert Lukash Oliynyk, Russian sabots, apparently, sent simple so -called "radio" teams with specific trains, which they target their attacks.

It is known that Poland is one of the main transport points for the delivery of NATO countries to Ukraine to fight our country with Russian invaders. Sending special signals, saboteurs were alternating with the Russian anthem, which was heard at radio frequencies.

Since trains use a radio system that lacks encryption or authentication for these emergency commands, says Oliynyk, anyone who has ready-made radio equipment for only $ 30 can transfer the train command by sending a series of three acoustic tones at a frequency of 150. 100 MHz, and and activate the function of the emergency stop. "These are three tonal messages sent in series. As soon as the radio equipment receives the command, the locomotive stops," Oliynyk says.

In fact, Oliynyk says, the possibility of sending a team has been described for many years on Polish radios, rail forums and YouTube. "Everyone could do it. Even teenagers trot. The frequencies are known. The tones are known. The equipment is cheap," Lukash notes. His words are confirmed by Ukrainian cybersecurity expert Andrey Baranovich. In his Telegram channel, he told how to perform such a diversion and even showed a radio station that could send such signals.

"This red buttons-Radio-STOP: repeated analog signal of 150 MHz consisting of three beeps (1160, 1400 and 1670 Hz) starts emergency braking. No authentication. Unlocked amateur radio To say, "train, stand, once or two!", "Andrew wrote, added: such attacks have already happened earlier. Poland's National Transport Agency has declared its intention to modernize Poland by 2025 to use almost exclusively cellular radio communications GSM, which has encryption and authentication.
