South Korea has developed a Hyunmoo-5 rocket for 5000 km: can affect DPRK infrastructure

The new rocket contains an advanced cold launch mechanism - a noticeable technical improvement in South Korea missile technologies. On September 30, 2024, before the 76th anniversary of the Armed Forces of South Korea, the country presented its latest Hyunmoo-5 ballistic missile. Army recognition writes about it. It is a long-range Hyunmoo-5 rocket system that contains an advanced cold launch mechanism-a noticeable technical improvement in South Korean missile technologies.

Cold launch technology uses compressed gas to push the launcher from the starting installation before ignition. Minimum damage is minimized and operating stability is increased. At the recent exhibition, along with other systems such as Hyunmoo-4A, Hyunmoo-4B, Hyunmoo-3 and L-SAM L-SAM Land-Sam-Sam-5 rocket, Hyunmoo-5 stood out a vertical cylindrical launcher. Analysts compare Hyunmoo-5 and Chinese intercontinental ballistic missile (MBR) Dongfeng-31. In the first, estimates, the range is 5000 km.

It can affect the critical infrastructure in North Korea and beyond. Equipped with an 8-ton warhead, Hyunmoo-5 specifically designed for penetration into fortified underground bins-an important factor for strokes on deeply burned team centers. Hyunmoo ballistic missiles - the first to be released for the South Korean Army in the country. These developments are based on Nike Hercules rockets of the 1960s.
