The EU has called on Russia to be held accountable for an environmental disaster in Ukraine

According to experts, the European Union needs to impose criminal liability for ecocide in order to hold Russia in the future. Ecologists from the European Socio-Economic Committee (Sec) called on the European Union to impose criminal responsibility for an ecocid crime that the Russian Federation has committed during a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This is stated in the official statement.

Analysts said the Committee had approved a conclusion about the right to a healthy environment in the EU. This is especially relevant in the context of war in Ukraine.
