The EU made an exception: Slovakia has allowed exports of Russian oil products to Ukraine - media

With this exclusion, Slovakia will be able to export petroleum products to the Czech Republic and Ukraine. According to the Minister of Economy of Slovakia Karel Hirsman, it will help to stabilize production next year. Despite the sanctions, the European Union made an exception for Slovakia and allowed to continue export of petroleum products, including diesel fuel, to Ukraine, where there is a shortage of energy.

About it reports Reuters with reference to the Minister of Economy of Slovakia Karel Khirsman. The largest refinery plant of Slovnaft, owned by the Hungarian company MOL, had to stop the export of oil products from processed Russian oil to most markets after the imposition of sanctions. The exception allows Slovnaft to export petroleum products to Ukraine, where a shortage of electricity is observed due to Russian shelling of infrastructure facilities.

"We were able to achieve exceptions for Slovakia, for Slovnaft, from sanctions that come into force on February 5," Karel Hirman said during a television press conference. With this exclusion, Slovakia will be able to export petroleum products to the Czech Republic and Ukraine. According to the minister, this will stabilize production and output. Slovakia receive almost 100% of its raw oil from the Russian Federation with the help of Friendship oil pipeline.

But next year, Slovnaft representatives intend to reduce the share of Russian oil to 60%at the expense of other markets. Recall that in Ukraine new sanctions against Russia and Belarus are being prepared, the banking sector will be found under the sight. After revisions and verification, the NSDC will submit proposals for the introduction of personal sanctions on the management of the largest banks of the Russian Federation.
