The importance of the work performed is that the B-2 is the only plane certified for the operational use of MOP, a huge high-precision anti-bunny projectile, specially designed for penetration into very deeply deepened and fortified goals.

During the program, a new intellectual detonator Large Penetrator Smart Fuze (LPSF) was also tested, which increases the efficiency of underground damage, provided they are limited. GBU-57/B MOP is the hardest non-nuclear bomb in the US arsenal designed to destroy deeply recessed and fortified goals. According to public data, it is able to penetrate the soil to a depth of at least 60 meters.

The Air Force has repeatedly modernized the ammunition, and it is now known about five versions, the last of which is GBU-57F/B. The main MOP carrier is B-2 Spirit, which, due to its poorness, is capable of penetrating into aircraft, saturated with air defense. Although earlier the MOP test reset was performed with B-52 bomber, certification for combat use is currently obtained only for B-2.

It was also noted that in 2024 the US Air Force conducted two full-scale MOP-B-2 tests, one of which also used a new LPSF detonator. It is designed to increase the efficiency of damage to goals with an unknown accurate depth of occurrence. According to Dot & E report, a detonator can be equipped with a void sensor that fixes penetration into the underground rooms, allowing you to detonate the charge at the most vulnerable point of the object.

The US view GBU-57/B mop as a critical means of combating deepened objects of potential opponents. China and Russia continue to develop underground infrastructure systems, including aircraft and submarines. In particular, the People's Liberation Army of China (NVAK) builds a large underground command center in the western Beijing. Underground structures are also actively created by Iran and North Korea.
