Unanimous decision: Finland will open two border crossing points with Russia

According to Prime Minister Petter ORPO, the government can quickly return the blockade if the problem with refugees recovers. The Finland government has decided to open two border checkpoints with Russia. Since the beginning of December, all these points have been closed. This was stated by Finland Prime Minister Petter Orpo, Yle reports. According to the statement of the Head of Government, Finland plans to open the checkpoints of "Valima" and "Niral".

ORPO stressed that the decision was unanimous, but at the same time noted that the government reserves the opportunity to quickly restore the blockade if there were problems with refugees after opening the border. At the same time, Finnish Internal Affairs Marie Rantanen said that such a government decision will be valid until January 14, 2024.

The Mikco Lechmus Border Service Representative emphasized in a comment to journalists that the opening of these border points was made to facilitate visiting relatives for residents living on both sides of the border. The decision to close the entire border expires on the night of Wednesday to Thursday (from December 13 to December 14). It should be reminded that the ISW estimates, migrants will not freeze out of their will, but the Kremlin unleashed a hybrid war against Finland.
