Ukrainian exhibition "One desk. Two traces", dedicated to education during the war, opened at the Council of Europe

The exhibition "One desk. Two Tracks", presented by the Global Platform of the Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen. This is a school desk, half of which has been destroyed, and the other half is as it should be in a world without war. This exposition was presented for the first time as part of the Fifth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen in September 2025. The desk is part of the global communication campaign Every generation leaves its mark.

Education shapes its legacy ("Each generation leaves its mark. Education determines which one"), created in cooperation with UNICEF. The main goal of the exhibition is to draw attention to the conditions in which Ukrainian children are forced to study due to Russian aggression. This winter, the Russians are striking Ukraine's energy system every day, leaving cities and communities without electricity, heat, and water supply.

In addition, according to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, more than 3,500 educational institutions have been damaged, 360 of them have been completely destroyed. "The double desk and blackboard give a clear visual message: war destroys - education creates. Education is the foundation of our hopes, development and sustainability.

Millions of Ukrainian children who continue to study even in the current harsh conditions - without heating in their homes - are evidence of human resilience," said the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska during an online address to the participants of the exhibition opening. The exhibition will be exhibited at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) from January 26 to 30.
