The ECtHR's decision stated that the Government of Ukraine provided comprehensive evidence of systematic violations by Russian representatives and persons under the human rights and freedoms. It is, in particular, about illegal detentions and searches, ill -treatment, persecution of representatives of the religious community and Crimean Tatars, termination of the activities of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar media, the ban on Ukrainian language in schools.
The ECtHR also noted that the Russian Federation is responsible for violation of the rights of Ukrainian political prisoners - persons pursued by the Russian Federation for their pro -Ukrainian position. “This decision is the first in which the international court found the Russian Federation responsible for the policy of large -scale and systematic violations of various human rights and freedoms in the temporarily occupied territory of the Crimea Peninsula.
