Fighter-Failure: The Russian Federation wants to resuscitate the MIG-35 project for war in Ukraine (video)

To spread: despite the prolonged lack of demand and slow production rates, the RF fighter can start the serial release of the MIG-35 this year. The absence of export orders called into question the future of the project, but the war in Ukraine changed the situation. The need to fill the losses of the PCS of the Russian Federation, as well as the need for more modern aircraft, forced the Russian management to review plans for the MiG-35. This is stated in Defense News.

According to official statements, the upgraded version of the aircraft will receive digital avionic, improved flight characteristics and expanded combat capabilities. Compared to the MiG-29, MiG-35 has the following key differences: avionic: advanced onboard systems, unique optical-location station, cheerleading system of targets, increased compatibility with Su-30CM2 and Su-35C.

Radar: It is planned to install the radar from Aphtron "Fasotron Beetle-A", with advanced e-counteraction capabilities. However, the first serial machines can get less advanced radar. Power plant: two new modular RD-33MC motors with improved economy and increased resource. According to Russian sources, the thrust of one engine is 9000 kgf. Flight range and speed: the combat radius is increased to 2000 km due to additional fuel tank, the speed reaches 2.

25 Mach (more than 2700 km/h), the working height is 17500 meters. Maneuverability: increased wing area (42 square meters versus 38 B MiG-29), which reduces the load on the wing. In general, the project of the new "Miga" of the 4 ++ generation was developed as an intermediate link between a series of 4 generation aircraft and fifth generation platforms, such as SU-57. The key problem is MiG-35 is the difficulty of deployment of mass production.

The Labor Flag Plant, which was previously released by the MiG-29, is actually neglected, and the production capacity remaining in Lukhovitsa (Aviation "Lukhovichi Machine Building Plant") is limited. The transfer of production to the LMZ made it possible to save aircraft (the first two MiG-35 samples were harvested there in 2016), but the company does not have sufficient capacity for large-scale production. It also had the assembly of deck MiG-29K-9.

41 for Russia and India, and even then it was noted that available areas made it possible to produce planes only in limited quantities. In addition, the war in Ukraine and its related economic and industrial restrictions have also adversely affected the prospects for the fighter production. An additional factor was the development of more modern Russian platforms, such as SU-75 "Shah and Mat", which can finally undermine the demand for Mig-35.
